CO2 Laser Aftercare Instructions
What to expect:
You may experience burning sensations for 1-2 hours immediately after the treatment. Cooling with an ice pack can provide relief for the treated area. Make sure to enclose the icepack in a clean covering
You may experience pin-point bleeding. If this occurs, you may gently pat the area using a clean gauze pad to stop the bleeding.
Caring for your skin:
Gently cleanse your face twice a day with a gentle cleanser without exfoliants. Wash in circular motions. Dry the treated area gently, using a patting motion. DO NOT rub.
DO NOT exfoliate using a cleaning brush or any facial scrub or acid based products for 2 weeks on the face or 4 weeks for the body.
DO NOT use any products that contain AHA (alpha hydroxy acids), glycolic acid, Retin-A (or other retinols), or any acne medication until your skin has finished peeling.
Keep skin well hydrated by drinking at lease three 8-oz glasses of water per day.
It is important to keep the skin moisturized and hydrated after the treatment. Apply an ointment or barrier cream to the treated areas several times a day for the next 3-5 days. This will promote healing as well as reducing the risk of infection.
When the skin returns to the intact state, you may wash, apply mineral makeup, shave or take a shower regularly.
Avoid vigorous exercise and sweating until the skin has healed- approximately 1 week. Exercise may increase blood flow to the areas, causing irritation and increase in body temperature. Alcohol, exercise, and sauna treatments may all irritate the skin.
If your skin becomes itchy at any time, you may use a 1% hydrocortisone cream (any brand).
Finally, use SPF 30 or higher consistently throughout the day. REAPPLY, REAPPLY, REAPPLY, for this will limit your skin from burning in the sun (even when its cloudy out or when sitting by a window). This will minimize the chance of more sun damage and discoloration. Use protective clothing, wide brim hats, or sun umbrella to protect the skin.
Pain tolerance varies widely. So please talk to Dr. Le about your pain care needs.
