Chemical Peel Aftercare Instructions
What to expect:
It is normal to not peel for up to 3 days.
When you start to peel, it typically starts around the mouth and will ascend over the next few days up toward your forehead.
Caring for your skin:
Gently cleanse your face twice a day with a gentle cleanser without exfoliants.
DO NOT pick or pull your skin at any time after your peel, as it can cause scarring. Your skin will take up to 10 days to completely peel depending on the strength of the peel or treatment that you have received. Chemical peels of the body, chest, or arm often take up to 30 days to complete the peeling process
DO NOT exfoliate using a cleaning brush or any facial scrub or acid based products for 2 weeks on the face or 4 weeks for the body.
DO NOT use any products that contain AHA (alpha hydroxy acids), glycolic acid, Retin-A (or other retinols), or any acne medication until your skin has finished peeling.
Keep skin well hydrated by drinking at lease three 8-oz glasses of water per day.
DO NOT moisturize the skin until it has started to crack, flake, or peel (usually day 3). It is ok to start moisturizing throughout the day with a good moisturizer (like Just Skin Fortified Moisturizer or Aquaphor) both day and night. Reapply throughout the day as often as your need. Your skin should never be so dry that it is painfully cracking.
Refrain from waxing, tanning, and using sunbeds for 3 weeks.
Avoid working out and sweating for the next 24-48 hours.
If your skin becomes itchy at any time, you may use a 1% hydrocortisone cream (any brand).
Finally, use SPF 30 or higher consistently throughout the day. REAPPLY, REAPPLY, REAPPLY, for this will limit your skin from burning in the sun (even when its cloudy out or when sitting by a window). This will minimize the chance of more sun damage and discoloration.
